roxy revue bar burning soulFrom the 1960’s a musical genre called Soul began receiving mainstream music attention, catapulting the careers of unknown musicians and singers into the musical hall of fame.

Reintroducing the soul phenomenon to Cape Town, local music director Jayson Jay King has produced a new hit show Burning Soul.  The show will run between Friday, 2 April and Saturday, 15 May at the GrandWest Roxy Revue Bar, Wednesday through to Saturday.

The multi-talented cast of the All Star Soul Band includes Ryan Meyer on guitar, Dylan Roman on the keyboard, Larnelle Gordon on drums and Manuel Don Jardine on the saxophone. On vocals there is Theodore Plaatjies, Abigail Bagley as well as Rashaad Adams who will be singing to their hearts content.

With its roots in Gospel music, soul soon stirred a growing fan base with its deep, moving lyrics accompanied by powerful male and female vocals.

One can look forward to hearing songs namely Mustang Sally by the Commitments, Try a little tenderness by Otis Redding and the timeless, You make me feel like a natural woman by Aretha Franklin.

To understand why this music consistently topped the charts between 1963 and 1973, don’t miss Burning Soul.

Tickets are available at Computicket at R67.00.  Doors open at 20h00 and the curtain rises at 20h30.  On Saturdays, there will be an additional show starting at 17h00.
